The core of our products is a platform for playful interactions: both virtual and physical. We utilize tasks and instructions and combine them with location data, user preferences and in-app communication to create an immersive experience that gently guides people out of their shells.
Our first experience - The Lottery - started in Tel Aviv as an immersive art project but grew to be a game with cult followings: an algorithm that directs the participants’ interactions in real time. It took place in bars, theaters, deserted office spaces, museums, and galleries, with thousands of participants.
In 2019 we launched its new version in Berlin - Terminal of Babylon. During Corona times, we formed our current team and decided it's time to use the experience we gained to launch an app that will turn the whole world into a playground.
Together with 25 strangers you enter a space. For a few hours, you will experience each other, and yourselves, in different ways. Talk or dance, perform for each other or create something together, touch and grow distant, tell secrets or tell lies.
Terminal of Babylon is a new kind of social structure, a party, or a game. For a few hours, you will constantly get orders from The Terminal - a special device built by us - running an algorithm that mixes and stirs your interactions. Most instructions are scheduled for five to twenty minutes, and are then replaced by new ones; some are more long-lasting. Most of the instructions are personal and discreet; some aren't. After a while, you wouldn’t be able to tell which part of the event around you is being controlled by the Terminal and which isn’t. And it doesn’t matter. You will be a character in other people’s stories, and they will be in yours.
Every minute of every day, we constantly obey orders, invisible orders. We take on different roles, and each role has different, and very restricted, options. We are different people when with our friends than we are with our mother, with our partner or with our boss, at a club or at a museum. We are all multiple people gathered into one, and without noticing we’re shifting and moving from wearing one mask to the other.Our lives are defined by our choices, but our choices are defined by our options. So this is what we do - create options, and the settings for magical moments to happen. Whether with friends or with strangers, in a bar or at home, in the beach or in the park, we are always restricted by our own patterns. What we should do, who we should approach, how we should look. In altær we believe that doing strange things can sometimes be liberating. So we give you (and ourselves) tasks. Some will spark your imagination, some will make new friends. Others will maybe be boring. But it will always be slightly out of your comfort zone.
